USB 3.0 History

USB 3.0 specifications were released in 2008, after 8 years since the specifications for USB 2.0 were released. In 2009 the first USB 3.0 devices reached the marketplace.

Our cable manufacturing company offers the USB 3.0 cabling product line which includes both peripheral and usb port cables. Also known as SuperSpeed USB 3.0 these devices will offer significant improvements over USB 2.0 which include increased data transfer rates, up to 4.8 Gbps, power management features, the ability to accommodate more power intensive devices, full duplex data transfers and backwards compatibility with USB 2.0 devices

USB 3.0 is able to accomplish this significantly higher performance through a couple of improvements over the USB 2.0 standard. The USB 3.0 specifications achieve this increase in performance by making a variety of changes. Most significantly the additional physical bus has been added in parallel to the standard USB 2.0 bus. This adds an additional 4 wires for a total of 8 wires for connectors and cabling. This allows the signaling method to be asynchronous instead of using the poling method in USB 2.0. USB 3.0 now has a bi-direction interface allowing for a full duplexing of data.
